Facelifts continue to be among the most popular cosmetic procedures in the U.S., but there are other options if you want to recapture that youthful look.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reports that in 2016, there was a 4% increase over 2015 in the number of facelifts.
More than 97,000 people had a traditional facelift, which requires surgery and days of recovery.
Nearly 34,000 had a mini facelift, which is less invasive and has a quicker recovery time.
Of the nearly 131,000 who had either procedure, 9% of them were men, more of whom are seeking cosmetic treatments these days.
If you’re on the fence about having a traditional facelift, it’s important to discuss alternatives with your doctor.
As mentioned above, mini facelifts are an option. A Swan Thread-Lift™ doesn’t require surgery, which is great for people who want to avoid anesthesia and longer recovery.
While the Swan Thread-Lift™ will give you a more youthful appearance, it won’t offer the same results as a full facelift, but it’s a good option when you just want a quicker, softer rejuvenation.
Men and women over the age of 35 are good candidates for this procedure. The ASPS reports that 65% of the 131,000 who had a facelift were over the age of 55, though they didn’t specify how many of those just had a mini facelift.
PRP therapy is also an alternative to a facelift. PRP is short for Platelet Rich Plasma and involves harvesting platelets from your own blood to give you a more youthful appearance.
Also a non-surgical treatment, PRP therapy is a good option for smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles, and for treating bags under the eyes – all of which can come with age.
The ASPS reports there was also an increase – albeit a small one – in the number of people who sought PRP Therapy in 2016.
Another non-surgical option? A combination of Radio Frequency and Microchanneling to tighten up your skin and reduce wrinkles.
It can be done on the face and neck to bring back that vibrant look you might have lost with age. A little over 306,000 people sought this out in 2016, according to the ASPS.
One more option is a chemical peel, which the ASPS report shows was quite popular in 2016. More than 1.3 million people received this treatment!
A chemical peel is just as it sounds: It’s a solution that’s placed on your face and then is, you guessed it, peeled off!
These peels can work wonders on your skin, not only smoothing it but making it softer. This is a great option for just about anyone, no matter their skin type.
Swan Centers offers an acid peel, which takes off the top layer of skin to reveal a fresh layer. It probably sounds painful, but there is minimal discomfort – and nothing a pain reliever can’t help.
As always, Swan Centers offers free consultations. We’re more than happy to discuss any and all options that will achieve the look you desire. We have offices in Naples, Fort Myers and Sarasota. Call us today at (800) 528-9650 or fill out our online form.
